See you in September. . .

Ever notice how rainfall has a way of evening itself out?

After all the rain we had earlier this summer, it was as safe bet that at some point it would stop completely. Well, it has. Add that to 90+ temperatures, and the tulip poplars shed leaves like crazy. I have no doubt that they will come back just fine next year, but a little rain right now wouldn't be a bad thing.

And, no, I really didn't take this picture last fall. This is what my back yard looked like two days ago. I'm going to get out the lawn mower and mulch up those dead leaves today, but I wanted the record to show that my poplar tree lost 50% of its leaves by the end of August.

About the only thing blooming right now are a few diehard roses, some rather wilted impatiens, the morning glories and the moonflowers. Why the moonflowers are doing so much better than anything else is a mystery, but there were five blooms last night, and heaven knows I haven't been watering them!

I did water the basil enough to get it plumped up enough to make some pesto yesterday. Turns out I really didn't need to go to all that trouble though. I've got three cottage cheese containers full of pesto that I made in 2008 out in the freezer. Oh, well. Now I've got two more from 2010.

Oh, yeah. I almost forgot. It's Wednesday. ;-)

LOL! You didn't REALLY think I forgot what day it is, did you?
